It is known for the "glitter" of Hastings Street.
Surfing.
And 50 squillion roundabouts.
Now over the years i have somehow developed a wholly undeserved reputation for crashing a lot. I have no idea where this notion has come from...
On a completely unrelated note, this morning i crashed. When i woke up it was raining and as a general rule, i DO NOT do rain.
That said, while the roads were wet, we didn't actually encounter any rain and the ride over to Hastings Street was quite nice. My brother turned up the pace a bit heading back west and with my 2015 legs still in their infancy i kept a steady pace and let him go.
As we came out of one of the roundabouts i decided to give it a little bit of welly and to my great and unpleasant surprise the front wheel kicked out. I have no idea how i kept it upright but it certainly got the heart rate going!
We agreed that in light of that, it would be best to take any remaining roundabouts with caution. So naturally, on the next roundabout, i somehow managed to crash at walking pace. I can't even begin to understand how it could have happened, oil on the road perhaps, but the end result was LDR lying on the ground in the middle of one of the busiest roundabouts in town in some significant discomfort.
Speaking of being cool about things, at this point i need to make the first of what will undoubtedly be many thanks to my boss. I can imagine many employers being unhappy to find an employee at the workplace dripping with blood 10 minutes before opening, but mine laughed and told me to turn to the side a bit so he could get a decent photo.
While the wounds were nothing too serious we didn't have the necessary dressings at work so i headed off to the doctor's surgery where Alison (yes i'm on first name terms with the nurse there, what of it?) greeted me with "have you done it again?"
OK maybe i crash a bit.
Fair Winds,
LDR.
