Obviously milliner's supplies are thin on the ground at a pool shop, but i still managed to craft a unique and eye catching fascinator for the big race today.
Unfortunately my tips weren't so successful, i put a small amount on 3 horses with the result of 12th, 18th, and a broken leg. Given one of my picks last year died, i think it might be time to call an end to my Melbourne Cup betting career.
On that note, what is it with all the people who use the Cup as an excuse to start frothing at the mouth about how evil gambling is, and everyone who ever gambles will spiral into a pit of despair and blah blah blah.
Now of course i understand that there are a significant number of people out there who do have a gambling problem, but how many million more have a punt every now and then without digging into the family savings? And i'm willing to bet (no pun intended) that there are far more lives destroyed by alcoholism, yet the majority of people seem to grasp the concept that it is possible to have a drink with friends without being an alcoholic.
Or perhaps they're just trolling, like that American girl who made the "Vegemite is racist cos it's black" video. The internet giveth, and the internet taketh away.
