Well it's a holiday by my standards at least. As of midday today, i'm off work at the pool shop for a week, but still doing 2 night shifts at the servo and painting the house &c &c ad nauseum.
Now of course it's not voluntary, but when Mrs LDR says "take a week off or i'll kill you", you take a week off quick smart! She does have a pretty good reason for that demand though...
In my last post i mentioned i was going to be doing a few extra shifts at the servo, well that started at 10pm last Wednesday. After a ridiculously busy shift i headed to the day job which was also busy (a good thing as it kept me awake) and then after only a short nap it was back to the servo again. A much easier shift that time round, but then off to the pool shop yet again before i finally got home to have a real sleep at 6pm Friday.
Yep, 45 hours. That was bloody painful, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I got a reasonable bit of sleep on Friday night before heading off to work on Saturday morning, but i was still quite tired. How tired?
I was filling out a warranty claim when i got to "Technician Name". For a little while i wasn't even sure what "Technician Name" meant, and once i had my head around that i had no idea who it was. Much head scratching and muttering ensued before it suddenly clicked and i wrote "Lachlan". And then there was another few seconds of staring at the screen before i realised what had happened.
I had forgotten who i was.
Sure there's a funny side but even now i can barely see it, that was one hell of a low point for me. But it gets better!
After another night at the servo on sunday (the only notable event being a deaf customer teaching me to say "thank you" in AUSLAN) it was off to the farm to finish off the gap filler. As far as i can tell, applying gap filler well seems to be the same as laying down a nice bead of weld. I was never that good a welder either, so no photos! But i got the job done, so i turned my attention to the old chook shed.
On first inspection it had appeared to be in pretty good condition (considering what the previous tenant had left in there...) but once i had cleared enough of the crap to get a proper look, it turned out almost all of the uprights were completely eaten out by termites. Now this seriously pissed me off, destroying the house i could deal with, destroying the old dairy i could deal with, but it was reasonable to hope for at least one building to be salvageable.
But it was not to be, so down she had to come.
With the lantana around the back there was blood drawn...
Then just drop the clutch and blammo!
The last photo is where things started to turn a little sour. As you can see in the photo above that one, there is a power pole very close by, so the fire needed to be kept on a tight leash. Not long after i took the last photo it got a bit over enthusiastic, and being pretty knackered i decided to just put it out and give it a go another day. That turned out to be much easier said than done, especially when i realised the fire had already got into the rafters and i would need to pull the roofing off to get at it (avoiding that was the entire reason for starting the fire in the first place).
So i pulled the roofing off-
And yes, as you can see from the photo, the entire roof structure is in perfect condition. Sorry, WAS in perfect condition, now it's burnt to the shithouse.
"Fuck it i'm done for the day" i thought, and headed back to Coolum. Along the way i decided a beer might be nice, so stopped at an ATM to check the bank balance.
Minus 84 cents.
So you know how all the self absorbed teeny boppers these days are forever carrying on about how they can't get the latest iWhatever and FML? No, fuck you you stupid whiny little bastards, THIS SHIT is FML. And just to really put the icing on the whole fucking disaster, when i finally broke down in the shower because fuck me i deserve to have a bit of a sooky wah wah after all that, i was so dehydrated from spending 3 hours putting out a fire with no running water that i couldn't actually cry.
Kids these days, they just need to harden the fuck up.
P.S. Just to clarify, all is well now :-).
