But on those rare occasions when one is not attempting to break records, sleep has it's place. I was most recently and emphatically reminded of such last year, when a surfeit of enthusiasm and shortage of sleep lead to me suffering from depression. Most people think of depression as a state of mind, but the brain is a just a big ball of squishy organic stuff like any other organ, and as with other organs, if it is subjected to unpleasant conditions, it will fail to perform optimally.
With that in mind (and the heavy rain we have been experiencing) i have had no riding since a 20km spin around Coolum on Tuesday evening. That was as good an example as any of the good and bad sides of life, several KOMs on one hand, and homo habilis driving a commodore ute on the other.
I have been able to keep active though, particularly with clearing groundsel by hand as the family tractor is only marginally more serviceable than the Chernobyl power plant. This unsurprisingly resulted in some impressive blisters, which will probably not help much with tomorrow's 2nd attempt on Cooloola Way.
In very exciting news, with the Mooloolaba Tri only 2 months away, i have managed to buy myself a Shiv!
Informing She Who Must Be Obeyed of said purchase was an exceptionally hazardous operation, but with careful explanation i persuaded her not to invoke the "til death do us part" clause of our vows.
In other other news, the local rag printed a letter from some doddery nonce the other day and my response got printed.
Fair Winds,
LDR.
