Well the triathlon was actually on Sunday of course but this is the first chance i've had to talk about it. And only because i woke up an hour early for a shift at the servo...
Team Blitzkrieg assembled at Mooloolaba bang on the designated time and after our swimmer headed over to the start line it was just a matter of waiting. And waiting. Time tends to go fairly slowly with that kind of pressure.
In due course Nic came running up, knackered not so much from the swim as the 1 kilometre run that was required afterwards and away i went. I ran with the bike to the transition exit, swung my leg over it and was promptly stopped by an official. It seems i hadn't read the book quite as thoroughly as i ought to, and was a couple of metres short of the mark for getting on the bike. The time it took her to say as much was all that was necessary for the penalty incurred, so i was on my way again with little impact.
The initial climb out of Mooloolaba went well, and i called "On your right" more times in the first couple of kilometres than the rest of my life put together. Those few kilometres were much hillier than i expected but we were soon onto the motorway and then it was time to really open things up. The northward stretch was surprisingly tough, with a crosswind all the way, but i was only passed twice.
To be continued tomorrow at some point...
